![]() ![]() I can't comprehend switching between products like that. Idk if skincare influencers are the cause but I do think they’re taking advantage of a mindset that’s always existed when it comes to the skin, and that’s that people in general treat skin as cosmetic rather than a vital organ that needs to function. They will spend thousands at Sephora before giving their money to a dermatologist. These kind of clients are also stubborn in their consumption, taking several visits to work on their routine because they insist on continuing to just add extra steps with products that are fucking with their regimen. She’s on her “acne journey” and I’m like you’re taking some unnecessary detours.Įvery patient I have that buys trending brands or gets their skincare advice from online has sixteen products and their skin issues persist. In her last video, she used La Roche Posay, Glow Recipe, Belif, Paula’s Choice. I am watching a micro influencer in my area right now with terrible acne and I watch her ever changing regimen videos and she’s using Cerave, Glow Recipe, Tata Harper, Krave Beauty. The influencers who seem to collect product on their shelf constantly like James Welsh, Hyram, etc. I do not for a second believe some of them (in particular, Susan Yara and Shereen Idris,) are using the drug store or Sephora products they claim to use. You can’t do frequent “Get Ready with Me” videos with your skincare changing constantly. Skincare isn’t like having three foundations and mixing two together today and tomorrow not wanting full coverage etc. stop using this products within days to only a couple weeks of use because “it didn’t work for me”, mixing oils and moisturizers together, throwing away items because of the way the skin felt after using it one time-etc etc etc/never considering the skin cycle, cell turnover, how skin can react when introducing new products/treatments, skin layers, health, etc. What these influencers do is treat skincare like it’s makeup in the sense that you can have twenty products, change them or try new things all the time, use different brands and ingredients nightly, etc. They use the same products every day or same treatments throughout the week. The one thing they have in common is a consistent routine. Most are at least on prescription strength tretinoin or hydroquinone. I do have patients on medical grade skincare (such as ZO or SkinBetter Science with tretinoin or hydroquinone,) and I have some patients on drug store like La Roche Posay, etc. PA and esthetician here who works in a medical spa with physicians-at the end of the day, what people have to remember is that SKINCARE IS NOT MAKEUP and skincare influencers treat skincare like makeup, and that is the inherent problem with skinfluencers. The only non medical grade item I use is Cerave face wash and Elta MD sunscreen. *** Not hating on all products if they work for you, just suggesting a more clinical and effective option if you’re not getting the results you want.ĮDIT: I’m sorry people are triggered by my usage of “clinical grade” when I mean MEDICAL GRADE. Repairing moisturizer for ultra sensitive skin $360 3 mo supply Rosacea drops 85 not sure how many months I threw out probably $500+ in every gurus skincare products and spent another $500 on medical grade.Ĭerave face wash is from target (I dont count this as skincare routine bc it just washes off ) I know a dermatologist is quite expensive if not in network (or without insurance) but my skin has changed dramatically in 8 months and I no longer wear makeup besides brows and natural lashes. All I know is everything on YouTube is someone’s ticket to make money, and the more products you need to buy from them… the more money they get. They are not clinical grade and do they even test for a long period of time to prove it’s effective? I don’t know the answer to that. I’m convinced these beauty gurus with their own skincare lines are just white labeling another product and adding more ingredients. I’m against filters when it comes to skin. I see photos of beauty bloggers skin without their ring light and wow. I don’t use any guru products anymore and I unsubscribed from every channel. (Sorry about me using the word clinical incorrectly) Retin-A, a rosacea treatment, moisturizer and sunscreen. ![]() I now use 4 MEDICAL grade (proven to work) products. ![]() I learned from a dermatologist (doctor) I have no need for 10 step skincare routine. ![]()
